werewolves
history
The legend goes that John Harlow, a young man living in an unknown American town, happened to annoy the local witch, an elderly woman named Nettie. For daring to trespass on her land, Nettie used the last of her strong magic to curse Harlow for years to come - that he would always be at the whims of the beast within. At first, the changing was erratic until John saw the error of his ways and returned to Nettie, begging for her to remove the curse. Unable to undo her strong magic, Nettie adjusted the parameters - instead of turning into a large wolf whenever Harlow happened to get angry, he changed once a month, for three nights at a time. And so, the world of werewolves was born.

The werewolves stuck together from the beginning. By the time they had started to write down their history, it was already many decades gone, and the small packs of wolves were spread across America. It was only a matter of time before they moved to Britain, spreading across the small isle, and thus creating more packs. The wolves are proud of their history, of the fact that all of them can be traced back to Harlow. As such, most wolves will marry outside of the pack and bring their new partner into a completely different world.

The packs of wolves have adjusted well to a new world. They have bought out land where it's safe for the young wolves to change, put out PSAs on what to do if bitten by a werewolf, and are known for being pragmatic about their new world. London is divided into three packs.

lore
The most obvious of a werewolf's abilities is the one to change into a fully-fledged wolf. Wolves change on the night of the full moon, as well as the night before and after. For young wolves and the recently bitten, this change can be somewhat painful. For the experienced, it's almost instantaneous. In wolf form, they have the ability to remember everything about their human lives; when they change back, the wolf memories can be hazy.

Throughout the rest of the month, werewolves have stronger senses than their human counterparts, able to hear sounds a mile away and keep their wolfish sense of smell (always unfortunate in a large city). They can be a little faster and stronger than the average human, but most wolves make an effort to hide their strength. In fact, the best way to notice a werewolf is to watch what they eat; they tend to eat more than their human counterparts as they burn up energy faster.

Wolves age at a normal rate, and heal fast. The only thing they have trouble recovering from is silver bullets, which must be removed completely from the wound before healing can occur; otherwise, touching anything silver tends to burn the werewolf on contact.

turning
Werewolfism is a dominant gene. Thus, most werewolves are born and do not turn into they reach puberty (sometime between nine and thirteen years old).

However, werewolves can also be bitten -- when a human is bitten by a werewolf, they generally have a fifty-fifty chance to turn. Should they turn, it will happen at the next full moon. If they don't, they're left with a cool scar forever and are immune to further bites.

london
There are three gangs in London. Thirty years ago, these would have all been one, but as the younger ones spread out, it became three. The pack split first, into Gerard and Cassie's packs (now known as Daniel's pack), and then Johnny's pack became a splinter group. The wolves have an uneasy truce not to shed blood, but that doesn't mean the occasional skirmish doesn't happen, usually on the borders. However, these treaties are starting to become a thing of the past and most werewolves are ignoring them.

gerard's pack
history
The oldest pack in London, Gerard's pack used to be the only pack that people ever wanted to join. Wolves have always been flocking to London and it was an ancestor of the Knoxes who created this pack- putting money into automobile establishments to provide work, and offering three-day-long camping trips to werewolves in order to help them hide their secret. Although the pack leader has changed over the years, the role passing down the male line, the organisation and camaraderie of werewolfism hasn't.

Gerard Knox came into power as the leader of the pack in June 2007, after the death of his father. In fact, dealing with such a large pack was something of a struggle, and in October 2008, Gerard made the decision to split the packs, forming Cassie's pack in the south. They lived in relative comfort before the awakening, enjoying their steady jobs, easy excuses to go 'camping', and strong network of friends.

Following the awakening, Gerard's pack was one of the first to find their footing in the new world. Very little changed in terms of organisation and they accepted their outing as best as they could, attempting to prove that they weren't dangerous or difficult to work with, and still the best mechanics in the city. They remain one of the strongest packs thanks to their numbers.

Currently, Gerard's pack is allied with no one.

joining
Joining Gerard's pack is incredibly simple, and there are no hidden costs or charges. It is as simple as making an appointment as making with Gerard Knox, and, in the short interview, explaining why you want to join the pack. Unless there happens to be an issue, Gerard is welcoming to most werewolves and will offer a job at the garages to any wolf who needs one, or help getting the required qualifications first.

The wolves who join this pack are often from outside of London, and choose to join simply because it's the largest and easiest to find.

OOC: If your character is interesting in joining Gerard's pack, they can do via Supernatural Sign Ups, an announcement that goes up on the 15th of every month. Joining will cost your character five reputation points.

about the pack
The pack is largely situated in the north and west of London and the pack members live around here too, although there are some who choose to live where the rent prices a little cheaper.

The members of Gerard's pack encompass just about every type of person there is; socioeconomic class, gender, and job don't matter as much as your willingness to help your pack members out when they need it. Being in Gerard's pack, to the pack members, represents a family, and they will do what they can to protect it.

There is no formal structure to the pack, but there is an understanding to the pack members that the older members, or those who have been in the pack longest, have the most authority, and are the ones to report any problems to. In this way, they act as betas to Gerard Knox himself, smoothing out problems before they can get worse. Younger wolves are protected and encouraged to work hard, follow their goals, and do what they can to take care of themselves.

Gerard's pack enjoy their full moons at Tidworth army base, three nights a month.

johnny's pack
history
Formed in March 2012, Johnny's pack bears the dubious honour of being both the newest pack in London, as well as one formed without Gerard's blessing. In the run-up to the breaking of this pack from Gerard's, it seemed as though every member of the pack had some issue or grievance, and Johnny, the youngest Knox sibling, began to realise that he had been short-changed, not allowed to run his own pack as he wished. He became a figurehead for rebellion and revolution and, finally, in March, Johnny's pack formed in the east end of London.

The members of the pack were perfectly happy to move home and begin to have a pack that was more member-run with Johnny offering leadership only when required. When Howl was bought, the pack members began to treat it as a base of operations, and most wolves in this pack work and live near there, happy to do whatever they want.

After the awakening occurred, Johnny's got the reputation for being rebellious, angry and full of wildcards. The members of the pack have taken this reputation and run with it. Although the rebellion and revolution seemed to have settled into this- living within their means, often on the poverty line, and expecting Johnny's promise of better to have failed- they're not to be underestimated, and are often the driving force behind a lot of London's chaos.

Johnny's pack are currently affiliated with Daniel's pack.

joining
Due to Johnny's busy schedule and the informality of the pack, most meetings to join the pack take place in the office at the back of Howl, and require very little practice or preparation. Simply phone ahead to schedule a meeting, meet with Johnny himself, and explain why you want to join the pack. It can a few days to get a phone call back telling you whether you can consider yourself a part of the pack or not, but at least it's a simple process. Johnny will offer a job at Howl to anyone who needs one and help getting a place to stay.

The wolves who join this pack are often young and from outside the city and aren't interested in having their behaviour policed. They simply want a place to go when they need it.

OOC: If your character is interesting in joining Johnny's pack, they can do via Supernatural Sign Ups, an announcement that goes up on the 15th of every month. Joining will cost your character five reputation points.

about the pack
The pack is largely situated in the east end of the London and pack members are often found close to Howl, the bar owned by Johnny's Knox.

The pack structure is incredibly informal and there is no recognised hierarchy within the pack. Instead, members are encouraged to make friends and take care of their own business within themselves; if a problem does sprout up, it's assumed that a member can call upon their friends to help them, rather than any kind of supervisor. This has the dual effect of allowing pack members to live their own lives whilst maintaining the status quo of the city, as the only pack where the pack leader simply does not get involved.

Pack meetings are rare and usually news is passed around the pack through word of mouth, although Howl usually acts as the hub for pack news.

Johnny's pack enjoy their full moons at Larkhill army base, three nights a month, alongside Daniel's pack.

daniel's pack
history
It's only recently, after the death of Cassie Knox, that this pack has changed name and direction. No one can say for sure how Cassie died, but everyone in the pack agrees: Daniel Heart is the new leader and they defer to him now.

The pack originally formed in October 2008 as an offshoot of Gerard's pack and took up residence in the south side of the London. There was never anything informal about this pack; they reported to a boss in the shard, worked in hospitality or admin positions, and were affiliated with the south coven. As the pack had been around for almost eight years previously, they were fairly settled into their new role as the pack that did not involve themselves in any drama.

Until now. Daniel has taken over the pack, admitted that he may use the pack for nefarious schemes, and intends to keep ahold of them for the foreseeable future. Some pack members are getting out as quickly as they can. Others... well, they seem more inclined to stay.

Daniel's violent rise to packleader has caused both Gerard's pack and the south coven to cut off ties with the pack. They can no longer change at the full moon in the same place as Gerard's pack and no longer take on jobs in the Ruby Crown Hotels.

joining
Although Daniel's schedule is often full, there is still enough time each month to schedule a meeting with him, and you can, in that meeting, explain why you want to join the pack. Daniel also expects a short written personal statement, largely based around your goals for your time in London and within the pack. A written reply will be sent to your home address imminently.

The wolves who join this pack are often interested in administrative positions in any line of work. New members join for the networking opportunities within the pack.

OOC: If your character is interesting in joining Daniel's pack, they can do via Supernatural Sign Ups, an announcement that goes up on the 15th of every month. Joining will cost your character five reputation points.

about the pack
The pack is largely situated in south London, and the pack members often choose to live there due to the low rent prices and proximity to the shard, where Daniel's office can be found.

The members of Daniel's pack fall into two distinct categories: young or new to the city and planning to go into business or administration positions; or a little older, but having just transfered to the pack upon finding out about the new leader. The pack still has a strict structure; Daniel personally selects his second-in-commands, and they handle most problems on his behalf, only escalating them to Daniel if they deem it necessary. Speaking to Daniel Heart personally works on a ticket system.

Pack meetings are often smaller with a few select pack members. Larger pack meetings are sporadic and only happen when required. Those invited to either pack meetings are expected to attend without excuse.

Daniel's pack enjoy their full moons at Larkhill army base, three nights a month, along with Johnny's pack.
