If Maya wasn't planning to run into anything to do with the fact she had a child out in the world that she wasn't allowed to see, it was in a bar. She'd gone just for a drink, thinking that at the very least she could blow off some of that steam and maybe get her mind off of things. As it stood, she couldn't say she was thrilled with how things were, and even if she'd wanted to be forthcoming with what was going on most of her few friends were wrapped up in their own business. It was easier as always to deal with it by herself. She'd not had much to drink, but she'd figured that a couple drinks and maybe she'd feel alright to head to bed unless she happened to drum up some business, or maybe get up to some no good. Although, admittedly she'd been trying to be on her best behaviour lately... you know, absolutely for no reason.

When she spotted him she was pretty sure she was seeing things at first. Mr Father Of The Year out for a drink? It was hardly believable. If she'd wanted to look for him she definitely wouldn't have done so there, but then there he was, and there wasn't much she could change about that. She debated just slipping out before he saw her, not sure it gave any sort of good impression to be seen drinking in a bar. Then again, he was doing the same thing, and he hated her anyway, so it really wasn't going to make a difference. So, without much else to do she approached, figuring he could put off what he was doing to tell her to go away, sure he wouldn't appreciate her there. "I'd say I'd buy you a drink but I'm sure you'd just not let me see that either," Maya said, not as aggressively as she might have done normally, pretty sure she was just going to have to pretend she was completely apathetic at this point.

Maya would admit there was something to the fact she wanted to know about her child. She knew the bare minimum about Lily, and she doubted Xavier was going to budge any time soon on letting him see her. She couldn't take it to the courts either, she had a criminal record and had abandoned her child, whereas Xavier was an upstanding police officer and had raised her, she didn't stand a chance. Her best bet was just to watch from afar and hope that she got past this phase or whatever it was of wanting to see her. Maya was under no illusion that she should be a big part of Lily's life. She had proved already that she was a terrible mother, and she wasn't entirely convinced that could change even if Xavier gave her the chance to try. She couldn't help being curious, though, she had given birth to her, she had held her and looked after her for those first few days, and it was only now that she realised she hadn't appreciated it.

Maya kept her distance, of course, when she arrived at the park that day. She'd gathered their routine, the sort of time he would bring her there, and she knew well enough that if she got spotted she was screwed. Still, she sat herself on a bench, hoping that between pretending to stare at her phone and being a generally inconspicuous looking woman she might manage to stay out of sight. She even enjoyed herself for a little while. She could spot the little girl easily even from the distance she watched, and she enjoyed watching her toddle about the little play area, other children running past, laughing loudly. She was even cute, Maya decided with some satisfaction. She thought perhaps that this would be enough, and she wouldn't have to get closer.

She'd forgotten after a while that she was meant to be paying attention to where Xavier was too. Too lost in what her daughter was doing, a rare smile playing on her face as she watched her. It was only when he was right on top of her that she realised she should have been leaving at least a minute ago. "Shit," She muttered, already standing and hoping that if she just left quickly he'd leave her alone. It was already too late, though, he'd seen her, and she stopped, knowing if she left she lost any chance she had to see more of Lily.

It was not unusual for Maya to be more than angry over something, she had a temper and wasn’t usually in the best of spirits, but now she was furious. She didn’t know why she couldn’t let the kid thing go, she didn’t want to see her kid, at least she thought, she didn’t trust herself as a mom and she had no doubt that this kid did not want a mom like her showing up out of the blue. Even so, she found herself wanting to know where this kid had ended up, what family had her, if they were treating her right, what she looked like, just… stupid things. No matter what she did she couldn’t get it out of her head, like maternal instinct was imposing itself on her without her permission. It was ridiculous. Fortunately, she knew if she could do anything it was track down the adoption files of her kid, she didn’t think it would take long, even if she couldn’t find names, she knew there had to be some trace – Xavier’s signature somewhere, an address or signature related to him, or really anything – but nothing. Not the sort of nothing where things were beyond her reach, but the sort of nothing where there literally was nothing. It had taken her a little while, but there was really only one conclusion: Xavier had lied to her.

Now, she was angry, conflicted and frankly confused. Why would he lie to her? She had never said she wanted to mom the kid, that she wanted to just waltz back into her life and act like she had done nothing wrong. She just wanted to know… well, she didn’t know. She had been doing this so long that she had lost sight of why she had started in the first place, it was just something she had to do. She wouldn’t admit it, but maybe she wanted to see her, to know what she was like. She decided it was best not to think about it, instead she wanted to find Xavier and yell at him, and let him know that she knew he had lied.

She didn’t have the patience to wait inside the police station, but she knew he wasn’t there, so it stood to reason that he would be soon, and she could wait for him. Pacing around outside, no one particularly wanted to bother a blonde who was stomping her way across three pave stones and back, but she had an eye out, she wasn’t going to miss him. Frankly, he was a little hard to miss, so when she saw him (rising to her full height for good measure) she made sure he saw her, marching towards him, a glare deep set into her features. ”You lied to me Holt,” She announced loudly, making no bones about the fact she would yell at him on the street if he let her.

It wasn't unusual for Maya to need to get information. Back in Canada she had reliable informants and people who could get her data where possible, in England she had less reliable contacts. However, she knew full well a few hunters in the area with the skills she needed who wouldn't mind that they were being used for criminal purposes. Maya knew both worlds had that element to them, and she never thought any full time hunter could judge her, they literally killed things, at least all Maya did was falsify documents. Still, she had text Naomi for help, she had a job to do and not enough time to waste not doing it, especially if she was actually going to make rent at any time in the near future, despite her family it wasn't like she was rich when it came down to it. You know, just disgraced and living by herself instead.

She headed over to Naomi's place, information she needed tucked away carefully, well aware if she was caught with illegal documents it could be more than bad. She knew Naomi would be able to get what she wanted, databases were something Maya didn't know how to get into herself, but if she could get a considerable amount from Naomi she'd be set for the rest of the year. Maya knocked on the door, waiting somewhat impatiently for it to open. She knew she'd have more patience when it was over, and her pay wasn't relying on the skill of someone else, it wasn't as though Maya trusted anyone else's ability, despite full well knowing that Naomi was good at what she did. "C'mon Maxson, I haven't got all day," Maya called through the door, knocking once more, rolling her eyes as she internally counted the milliseconds it apparently took to open a door.

Maya would never claim to be a good mother. Frankly, she wouldn't claim to be a mother at all. She hadn't told her family, she hadn't told anyone she knew, the fact she'd managed to hide a pregnancy to begin with was a feat on her part, but fortunately it was all in the past. Except... now it wasn't. Now she was back in London avoiding children's play parks in case she accidentally saw her child and its father in one, now she was walking far too fast past the toy aisle and baby supplies in supermarkets, now she was plagued by the fear of running into a child who hadn't seen her mother for more time than it took for Maya to get out of hospital and hand her over to her dad. As far as Maya had been concerned at the time, she was never going to see them again, now it was ruining her new life. What was the good of being a disowned criminal if she couldn't even enjoy it?

She had paced outside of the station long enough, half hoping he would come out for something and they'd have a quick interaction and it would be done. Instead she was cold and waiting, and it wasn't a good combination. The worst part was this could all be for nothing, Maya knew there was a chance he could have given her up like she had expected, but Maya needed to know. It wasn't like she was looking for her daughter specifically - at least she didn't think so - she just wanted to know where she shouldn't be, to get the not knowing off her mind. Once she knew her kid was alright and where it was she could put it behind her for real.

Deciding this was ridiculous, she burst into the station, glaring her way towards the front desk. "I'm looking for Officer Holt, I need to speak to him," she said, about as politely as she could manage for how tense she was. She hadn't seen him in a long time, for all she knew, he wouldn't even see her at all. She was told to take a seat, and settled herself in a plastic chair. She waited, eyes glued to the floor until a shadow fell over her and she finally looked up. "Xavier," she greeted with a nod, waiting for the inevitable moment it would become clear just how much he hated her.
