Brand new sounds in my mind
But, honey, I'll be seein' you 'ever I go
But, honey, I'll be seein' you down every road

Dylan didn’t know what had happened. The plan for the evening was so simple, it was genuinely foolproof. Neither she nor Ivan had significant others, but that shouldn’t stop them around Valentine’s day, and, as such, they had made a plan to deal with this: find a single’s night, find someone to hook up with, and probably talk about it tomorrow at work. She had been Ivan’s wingwoman several times before, and usually it was with great success because Ivan, being an incredibly handsome and charismatic male, could be a little intimidating sometimes; Dylan was a great buffer because she got to talk to whole groups of girls, work out which one would be Ivan’s type, and totally subtly set them up. She was so used to it that that, at first, she didn’t realise anything was going weirdly, but time and time again, she returned to the bar, and after the fifth trip to get a new drink, she realised two things: one, she kept meeting Ivan there, that wasn’t right; two, she was buying her own drinks, and at number five, honestly, someone else should be doing that for her.

“Ivan…” she started, leaning closer so that he could hear her over the music, looking deeply confused about everything. Some of this could, of course, be attributed to the alcohol, but she knew her nightly habits, and this was not it. By now, they should be checking with one another that they were okay and then going their separate ways. Ivan should just be a fond memory of the night. “What’s going on? Are… are you okay?” She didn’t know if she was asking because she was somehow failing in her job as a best friend (the horror!) or because he was failing in his capacity as a wingman (she’d never heard of such a thing before!). “What do we do if” (here, she looked awkward, for she had never dealt with this phenomenon before) “we don’t pull tonight?” Did they just… go home? Good God, how did normal non-confident people manage it?

about Dylan is pretty much a shameless tomboy and she's totes okay with it. She's grown up with a single dad (v civilian) and her mother's family have always been in Gerard's pack - her mom passed away when she was very young but she's always generally be near the fold of Gerard's pack and it was always expected that she'd join them too. Honestly, she's not one to rock the boat and she's very appreciate of the people around her because she's never known anything but supportive, slightly mad people, and she's definitely one of them- if she's all up in your business, it's because she cares. She looked up to a lot of the mechanics when she was younger, so she's pretty much living the dream at the garages tbh.

Her preferences have always leaned towards generally masculine things; she had a tendency to get into fights when she was younger and always wanted to prove how tough she was. She's mellowed out a bit now, so now she enjoys things like getting drunk with her friends, probably playing bad drinking games, and watching sports- she supports her football team gloriously, and is very open about how she doesn't care about things like make up (though she doesn't judge you if you do care, it's just that she doesn't know how to do it). She's basically just here to chill, have bros, and and go to work, she's not very dramatic.

friends Definitely friends in the pack! She's always been with them, and so were her grandparents (and mom, a long time ago), so I'm sure that her family has just been always known in the gang. She's definitely easy to get on with, probably consistently drunk on Saturday nights, and hungover at work but y'know, in a cool way. She just likes to chill and eat lots of pizza with her mates.

enemies I don't think she makes enemies very well, but she's definitely one to be protective over her family and friends where needed; like, she won't get into a fight herself but she'd definitely be back up for someone if needed.

lovers She's definitely dated in the past, but they were probably more casual relationships where it's not really lasted; she's not opposed to dating in the future, but she also struggles to fit a boyfriend into her life. She's good to have past relationships though- I imagine a lot of her break ups have been amicable.

It seemed Dylan was always cursed to be one of the boys.

In a way, she didn’t mind, she was sure of it. She had good friends- great friends- and she worked with most of them, so the workplace was half-serious, half-banter. She never had to worry about things like appearing unladylike, something that her grandmother found a serious concern, and no one ever expected her to do anything like learn needlepoint. She got on fantastically with her dad, both of enjoying sports on TV and yelling about their respective teams, and she was particularly proud of the fact that she did all of her own heavy lifting; when she and her dad had moved homes a few years ago, they didn’t really need anyone else to carry boxes to the van.

All of this was great- but she did occasionally consider the other side of things, just vaguely.

When she’d been growing up, her dad had been very insistent on putting her in frilly pink dresses. He bought all the Barbies he could find, even if he couldn’t always afford it, and tried to play tea parties with her very obediently. She even liked these things, but she found that there wasn’t much fun in it for her; she had no one to play with and she could sense her dad was only really doing it because he thought that it was how little girls were supposed to be raised. He didn’t want, he’d said, people to think she was getting into fights at school just because there no feminine influence at home.

The fights were going to happen anyway. She was always a little too headstrong, a bit too boisterous to sit serenely in the sandbox. She mellowed out by high school but by then, she had already given up on things like trying to have nice hair; she had more important things to do than worry about appearance and she was consistently determined to beat everyone in arm wrestling matches.

She inherited things from her mother, of course. She had the same messy blonde hair- sort of untameable for a few years while she learnt not to throw it in a ponytail and hope for the best- and pout when things didn’t go her way, which happened often. Most importantly, though, was when her father had to sit her down to give her a talk of a different nature, explaining that all of those weird monsters were real and she was one and then promptly spent two hours assuring his crying daughter that it wasn’t that sort of monster.

These were the sorts of things that her grandparents excelled at. Three days a month, she went to their house, happily skipping school, to learn about all things supernatural. She had a lot of questions and then, as things started to become clear, she figured that there was nothing she could do about it and anyway, all of the stress and pain just proved how tough she was.

She didn’t mind that at some point, she had lost her femininity. She hadn’t meant to, but her lifestyle stopped being conducive to being girly and no one’s efforts really changed her mind. The people she started to idolise turned from musicians to sportspeople; she spent more time around a pack and she became enamoured with being one of them. To a teenage Dylan, the people at the garages- usually oil-stained, loud and full of laughter- seemed effortlessly cool and she wanted to be like that too. They seemed like a weird, slightly dysfunctional family, more than just her and a dad in a poor apartment, and the whole thing appealed immensely.

One thing about having a pack full of people who seemed to care about one another a little too much was that the moment she expressed a desire to get involved, approximately seventeen of them turned up to take her under their wing and show her the ropes. They pushed her through her education, encouraged to take mechanic courses, and invited her to parties (well, she invited herself but no one ever kicked her out!). At the end of the day, she got to return home to her dad, happy with her life choices.

Dylan still lives with her dad, still works as a mechanic, and hasn’t even considered moving packs. To her, she considers herself in the best place she could be, which is to say she has very simple wants and goals, and she no longer dramatically pouts when things don’t go her way. Instead, she shrugs and moves on, figuring she has more important things to do. She is totally content to attend nights out with her friends, diagnose a faulty engine, and, in general, stay under the radar as just another person in their strange werewolf pack.
