we're just pressing flowers; They're dying But they're ours
Tessa often felt she had explored pretty much all of London. She had done all of the big tourist attractions and then all of the smaller ones and, really, not a lot of it surprised her anymore. It was, therefore, quite something to find out that she had missed a glaring attraction- an abandoned tube station, often empty, that had once been in use before it had been deemed fairly useless and closed down. Immediately, she wanted to explore it. She could have done this on her own- and she had done that, fairly often!- but she always preferred these things with a friend and had searched around for someone appropriate to take with her, obviously not inviting people who, for instance, had proclaimed they hated weird adventures. In the end, Ignacio had said he was free and that was really enough for her to provide him a meeting place and time.

The door had been, admittedly, locked when she had gotten there, but she had dealt with that herself, deciding that if the door was unlocked, open and inviting, Iggy couldn’t really say no (nor think it was illegal! Which it technically wasn’t). By the time he had turned, it was already getting dark but she did have to work around her work schedule. Nevertheless, she gave him a friendly, gentle smile. “Good afternoon,” she greeted as though they were off for a stroll around a park. “Did you bring a torch like I asked?” she continued in the same tone, hoping he had. She had, rather lamentably, forgotten.

we’re falling apart, still we hold together
Ignacio was not someone to turn down an adventure. He liked to explore and find new things to occupy his time since he spent much of his time locked up performing autopsies on...well bodies that died in less than normal circumstances. It was fulfilling work for him, something he deeply enjoyed doing in order to provide closure to everyone he could (as he couldn’t reach his own). He had been at work when Iggy had received a time and location from Tessa (after he said he was free), along with needing to bring a torch (flashlight, he had to mentally correct, but he’d excuse it this time as they were in London). He wasn’t one to ask too many questions in that regard, and sketchily examined the door as he passed by it, wondering just what he was getting himself into.

”Hello,” Iggy greeted lightly, ”How are you doing this afternoon?” It was customary to ask, after all, especially since they seemed to be exchanging pleasantries. It was very bizarre, but obviously there was a kind of allure and mystery to today’s adventure, and Iggy wasn’t going to complain or question anything about that. ”I did, actually!” he nodded, shifting around to zip open his backpack to retrieve it, flicking it on as proof before offering it to her, ”As you’re leading this excursion, I feel like you should be trusted with this?” It seemed fair, anyway, considering Iggy would likely focus on...many things that likely no one else cared about. He was just intrigued by any signs of struggle and the like?

we're just pressing flowers; They're dying But they're ours
Tessa was glad to see that Ignacio looked well enough- certainly, he didn’t look like the people he experimented on so often- and that he had even been polite to do as she’d asked; she didn’t often made demands of people, preferring gentle suggestions, but it was a relief to know that they would not be exploring in the dark. While she trusted their abilities with magic to deal with that issue, she found that over-reliance on magic was remarkably boring after a while; the world had survived just fine without it. “Oh, I’m well. I sold many flowers,” she notified him lightly, pushing the door open a little more. The dark, frankly speaking, did not look inviting but Tessa acted as though she might have found Narnia at the back of the cupboard for all it worried her.

While she had thought he might have done better with the torch, she still accepted it from him, careful to turn it on and point it at the ground until she deemed it needed. “I warn you, I haven’t been in here before,” she offered, as there were occasions she would revisit a place and, in doing so, deem it safe for mild exploration with someone else. Having done so this time, she could only hope that Ignacio thought to watch his step where possible. “After you,” she added, despite the slightly macabre beginning. She would never make a good tour guide for this sort of thing.

Ignacio’s job often was described as peculiar in that he had enjoyed it very much, and felt that there were a lot of stories to be told with encountering corpses, especially the ones he did. They typically weren’t dying of natural causes or anything along those lines, so Iggy spent a great deal of time jotting down every meticulous detail that he discovered ensuring proper documentation to the fullest of his ability. He supposed it was a little odd to prefer the company of corpses...but he didn’t find anyone pointing this out to his face. ”That’s wonderful,” Iggy nodded ruefully. He was never much of a salesman and didn’t think that he would get on much in the way of selling flowers, ”Business probably has picked up loads due to the seasons changing…” At least, that was something Iggy would assume anyway.

He turned his attention towards where they were headed, glad that he had a bit of an itch to adventure and loved the allure of mystery that darkness had to offer, otherwise this entire situation was going to become incredibly uncomfortable. Instead, his gaze swept over everything he could vaguely make out with the little bit of light he was able to provide with the door opened a bit more. Aside from dark it didn’t seem too bad, so Iggy wasn’t too alarmed when Tessa had announced she’d never been there before. ”Ironically, neither have I,” he answered easily, shrugging his shoulders, ”So try not to step on any dead bodies we may find in here,” Iggy joked before proceeding into the doorway and into the dark, squinting a bit to try to get his eyes adjusted to the lack of light which was much easier said than done. It wasn’t much different than he had expected, though it was hard to make out any details that weren’t generalizations. The air reeked of dust that had been caked on the surfaces of things for...who knows how long, and it made the air feel almost heavy with how musty it was. ”Do we know where this leads, or is that part of this exploration?” he inquired, taking a few more steps into the area, trying to limit movement to where there was still some light from the flashlight he brought.

we're just pressing flowers; They're dying But they're ours
Tessa nodded somewhat vaguely at Iggy’s comment about sales increasing but, truthfully, she wasn’t sure she would have noticed whether it did or not. The side business kept her busy enough that she didn’t mind that taking care of flowers was just something to keep the place looking legitimate. “Not at all. Most people buy online,” she notified him serenely, happy enough to correct him if he thought that she may have to upgrade in the future when, in fact, she had been determinedly ignoring anything that suggested she should do the opposite; bureaucracy could be so frustrating sometimes.

“If we do, would you leave them or work on them?” she wondered vaguely, unsure if having a coroner around meant that they would be forced to stop for every dead body so that he could examine them. She didn’t mind the scenario, but if so, she thought that he would have to make sure he didn’t stumble upon any, so that they could continue their adventure much more logically. She didn’t think he was carrying anything on him that would be appropriately good for the job, but then, she wasn’t sure, not having enough experience with dead bodies in her lifetime. Carefully pointing the torch around the interior, she heard his question, but didn’t answer until she was done taking in the sight of the old, stone walls and the ground beneath their feet. “Well, it’ll lead to a tube station,” she explained, pointing the torch at the ceiling, mostly out of curiosity. A gaggle of bats looked curiously back at her. “I don’t know where the stairs are to go down, perhaps you can spot them,” she suggested, carefully pointing the torch back at the walls for him again. She was more interested in the feel of the place, and, morbidly, the feeling of knowing how far underground they would end up.

Iggy supposed that was a flaw in the changing of the times--more people were buying online rather than going to a store in person. It was just more convenient, even if that meant sometimes sacrificing quality. ”Such a shame,” Iggy nodded, ”But at least you’re still as cheery as ever.” It was a reassuring thought, anyway. Taking things poorly like that wasn’t worth anyone’s energy, and it wasn’t as if Iggy could offer proper business advice. He really didn’t know much about running a business, as his work was contracted by his employer...and frankly the people he worked with didn’t really want to discuss marketing with him. ”I suppose I should be glad people can’t really...buy my services online.” That would just be really bizarre, and Iggy wasn’t sure how that would work.

”I think I would leave them...this environment isn’t the most stable…” his voice trailed off, glancing around, ”But I’d make sure they was found by the proper authorities and taken to my lab promptly.” It was the reasonable response, Iggy felt. He felt a moral obligation that if they did stumble upon a body, he’d have to do something about it, and discover why they met their death, but he didn’t bring the proper tools and resources in order to perform a proper autopsy in an abandoned tube station. He glanced around, staring at the high walls and stone all around him, and the best way he could describe this place was...damp. Even if he wouldn’t know if it was unless he actually touched the walls and things, but that could ruin the allure. Instead, Iggy was glancing around, before pointing a little ahead of them on the left, ”I think they’re over there?” he said, though not entirely sure, but waited for the light to be shone over there, ”Yes, there’s a railing over here, let’s go!”

we're just pressing flowers; They're dying But they're ours
Tessa looked up rather curiously at the notification that she was still rather cheery, but supposed that a tendency to accept the negative probably did make her more optimistic than many people her age. Either that, or Iggy had been briefly sarcastic and she hadn’t noticed, though she didn’t mind this scenario either, even if sarcasm wasn’t something she often engaged in. She considered his other statement much more curiously, however, quite intrigued by the idea of buying coroner services online- a particularly niche and strange market that she was briefly amused by. “I think you’d be surprised what people buy online,” she considered, finding the notion still very novel, even if he did nothing with it. She just thought he couldn’t sell the idea short.

It was just as she was curious about his dead body protocol, but supposed it was a relief that they wouldn’t be side-tracked by a dead person for too long. There would be questions that would be raised if they did spot a casual corpse down here, but she felt like they would deal with that when the problem came up, if it ever did. As she was the one controlling the torch somewhat lazily, she stopped swinging it around when he spotted something, and she trained the light on the space he was pointing at. Indeed, it did seem to be darker, and she stepped somewhat carefully towards the opening to shine the torch in properly. It didn’t really do much to shed any light on the situation, so she shined it at the stairs themselves. “It looks safe to me,” she considered, taking the plunge and stepping onto the first stair; it felt sturdy beneath her feet, not likely to crumble. “I think we’ll be fine. You’re coming, right?” she checked, taking another step carefully.

Iggy, of course, was immediately caught off guard by the notion of utilizing his services online. It would be one thing for him to get the information sent to him to consult on, which was something that happened quite frequently and he often perused that information in down time or over his lunch break, but would be completely different to actually...be hired for autopsy services online. ”I suppose you’re right,” he mused, though the thought was still particularly unsettling to Iggy, ”I just don’t foresee it becoming an everyday service, but I’m sure it will eventually.” He couldn’t imagine doing autopsy house calls, anyway. It just didn’t seem as sterile and he wouldn’t be comfortable with it unless technology involved in such a way that everything was sterile and imitated his lab as much as possible...including everything being pretty darn cold so that he wouldn’t have to deal with the smell of decaying flesh.

As Tessa was the volunteered (or volun-told) leader of the situation, Iggy was allowed to just peer around and see if he noticed anything, which was just enough responsibility. He followed her, eyes shifting around, and when they landed on stairs, he followed her to examine them, watching her as she stepped down on the first step, and then the second before opting to follow her himself. ”Of course,” he answered easily, more intrigued by the prospect of where they were going now. There was a mystery and allure to the situation that piqued his interest, and here he was, proceeding to follow her until the steps ended, glancing around though it was much darker down here than the previous level they were at.

Tessa wasn’t sure what they would legitimately find down here. She really did hope to find the entire platform, but there was an awful lot of steps and she really couldn’t go very quickly in case a step did give out from under her; if she did get injured, she’d have a real struggle explaining this to authorities, and that was a lot of effort for some simple exploring. Right when she was sure that the air was too musty to go any further- that probably they were about to run into a brick wall and need to turn around- she stepped onto flat ground and then out of the way so that Iggy could follow. She had no idea how deep underground they were, but she found it particularly exciting, smiling a little as she attempted to catch sight of anything.

“Here you go. I can do magic from here,” she offered, moving to hand the torch over to Iggy so that he could take a look around himself. She still couldn’t see anything, but she could hear his breathing and see his silhouette; she wanted to take a look at a proper old-fashioned tube station but would struggle to do so if she had to keep the torch focused the entire time. “Do we have the entire platform for ourselves?” she continued, attempting to brush some of the stale air from her face as daintily as possible while her eyes adjusted, digging in her bag for something to help her with something magical.

Iggy was never one to turn down the opportunity to explore somewhere old and abandoned--it became a sort of hobby of his, surely derived from the fact that he absolutely was drawn to mystery and granting closure to people. It’s why he started working for morgues, that was for certain. As such, the air felt old and stagnant the further underground they went, almost growing more and more thick as he walked--almost as if his lungs were filling with dust, only for the same dust to be exhaled moments later. It was clear that no one had been around here in quite some time, and the aura of the area was very...musty and damp. ”Oh, cool, thanks,” he nodded, taking back the flashlight and carefully glancing around for anything out of the ordinary.

It just seemed as if the place was old and abandoned and the only dust that was getting kicked up was from their intrusion, so he nodded ruefully at her question, ”I think so, or else people have gotten very, very good at hiding themselves.” It seemed unlikely, anyway, at least from his standpoint of observation. He liked to think of himself as detail-oriented, so if anything in this abandoned platform was out of place...well he wanted to believe he’d be able to tell. However, Ignacio hadn’t spent a great deal of time exploring old and abandoned platforms such as this, so it was plausible there was something he was missing here--which was why he was far more comfortable exploring these sorts of places that he hadn’t been to before with someone else--and he was aware Tessa was more than capable of handling herself if necessary, and if one of them got hurt...well he’d figure out what to say to explain what happened without making them seem like total trespassers.

we're just pressing flowers; They're dying But they're ours
Tessa didn’t often need to dig in her bag for something, preferring to just let things happen and not at all answer her phone, but while Iggy messed around with the torch, she fished out one of the few packets she had dumped in there, a collection of words snipped from appropriate literature and strung together; it wasn’t the only way she understood how to do magic but it was a method she liked because of the way it took so little from her, only intention. As such, after ensuring the chain was unbroken with a careful feel of her fingers, she focused her magic on the thin ring of paper until it began to glow; when she was happy with the level of light, she allowed it to float somewhere above them like a strange lightbulb, finally giving her enough power to look around without needing the torch as much.

“Well, it’s got no dead bodies,” she admitted at first, sounding almost a little disappointed by this revelation, only because she thought it would be a good full circle if they did find one. Alas, there was just rubble and the tracks that she expected to find, and a lot of dark shapes where the light didn’t hit. “Where should we look first?” she enquired, brushing dust from in front of her face with a frown as she surveyed the space. “The tracks are still charged, no?” she checked, looking down the tunnel, unsure where this station had connected with the local tube stations.

Iggy fiddled with his flashlight, watching her reach into her bag before flashing his own light around to see if there was anything remarkable. It seemed exceptionally dusty and dank in the tunnel, probably because they were the only two people who had been down in this tunnel for ages. It was dark and honestly Iggy felt there wasn’t enough eyes for him to be able to see everything he wanted to at once. Exploration of places like this was something right up his alley and nodded. ”I’m not sure whether or not I’m relieved or not by that.” It was honest--while dead bodies were mostly unsettling for people...Iggy literally worked with dead bodies all day.

”I think so?” Iggy shrugged, ”I think we should go down the direction that looks the most abandoned.” It seemed like something Tessa would be down for, considering they had gone this far, shining the flash light back and forth to choose the path that seemed the dustiest before starting his trek down the path, following the rails. ”Maybe this will loop back towards the catacombs?” he wondered allowed, which would be the absolutely most amazing thing. Ignacio would have loved to stumble in upon them, not the touristy set up that had taken them over, but the true catacombs. It was that sort of exploration that typically dragged Iggy out of his apartment in the first place to explore everything he could. There was just so much history and death to encounter, which seemed so morbid, but Ignacio found it incredibly interesting. ”Since I doubt we’re going to run into a train anywhere.”
