future wife ■ gerard's pack ■ 32 - 37

■ hello! i am requesting a future true love for gerard here!

■ the face i've used here is lauren cohan but feel free to use anyone who looks about the right age, as gerard is nearing his forties she should probably be in her mid thirties at least! she should also be a werewolf in gerard's pack preferably.s

■ so my idea is actually pretty vague, but some background on gerard first! he's been the leader of his pack since his parents died, originally it was a large pack that got splintered by his brother who left to form his own one. Those loyal to gerard stayed with him, the rest moved out. At the time he was married himself, very happily too, until a year ago, when daniel took power and killed his wife and his little sister to make a point. This left Gerard alone with a newborn baby and a pack in danger.

■ Now we're about a year on from this, Gerard's slowly gotten past his grieving by looking after his daughter (Cleo) and he's trying to rebuild the trust and strength of his pack. He's a good leader, kind as much as he can be, a little too focused on the greater good sometimes, but he's working on taking the individual lives of his pack members more to heart than he has done in the past.

■ so i'm going to call this lady lauren for the purposes of the ad, but obviously that'll need to be changed. i thought it would be cool if lauren was a high up member of his pack, gerard has right hand people - maybe two or three who act as advisors and people who are accessible to the rest of his pack when he can't be. as one of gerard's right hand people lauren would have been there through everything, when his wife died, when he couldn't get Cleo to sleep, when pack emergencies showed up - basically they would be super close.

■ now that he's healed a bit it's clearly time for any unrequited feelings between them to come to light. whether it's just a one sided thing that kind of explodes into emotions, or they get pushed to awkwardly date, or something happens one time and they feel super weird about it after but then it develops into emotions. Either way Gerard will be hesitant about the lady he lets be Cleo's mom, but he'll already trust Lauren so hopefully it'll just be a case of them working out their feelings for each other. I'm sure we can work out the details of this part a little more when we have an idea of her character.

■ her personality is completely up to you, as well as her day job and her feelings about the pack politics, and even about gerard's leadership skills in general! she could easily disapprove of things, she could have been friends with his wife before she died so that could provide some weirdness, she could even have considered leaving the pack at one time - i'm down for any conflict she might have. if you want a built in job for her she could work at the garages that Gerard owns but she doesn't have to if you'd rather her work a less greasy job!

■ feel free to discuss the details of this with me over skype/pm, i'm willing to change stuff to suit a character idea, the plot I've laid out isn't something we have to stick to. And as I said fc/personality/history is up to you!

If there wasn't enough death and tragedy in the Knox family, the passing of his wife so soon after his sister had truly taken a toll on Gerard. It was all he could do to look after his daughter and keep his pack afloat, for the most part it was occupying him, and that was all he wanted. He did not need to think about his wife, mourning took up time he could be rectifying the damage he had done - and, of course, he blamed himself more than anything for the deaths of the recent months. It was now more than ever that he regretted what he had done to his brother, that he saw his errors made in fear and anger, and had no choice now but to live with them. Well aware of this, he had initially decided to let things lie, to just focus on what was important. Still, slowly it started to grown in the back of his mind that he could not let his wife die and not know why, not know what he had done to cause her death - he didn't think it was his brother, and whilst he suspected Daniel he had no proof. He needed more.

It had taken him a little while to track down someone willing to talk to him someone who was discrete, and whilst he might be in his brother's pack, Gerard was sure he could be more trusted than most people in this line of work. Not that he could look up the Yelp reviews for private investigators, but he was sort of hoping the recommendations meant he was safe enough. He sat with the baby in his wife's old tea shop, now closed temporarily until Gerard worked out whether he could keep it, but he had opened it up just for this. He was sure his basic knowledge of the drinks machines would tide him over the meeting and there was no chance they'd be overheard by anyone other than a six month old baby.

He was fussing over Cleo when the other man entered, and only looked up to give him a quick nod and gesture that he could come in. The door said closed, but of course, it was unlocked. "Hi, thanks for meeting me," he said, giving up on making the little girl more comfortable in her carrier and picking her up instead. "Did you want something to drink, we still have tea and coffee?" he added, finally focusing on the other man, and giving him a quick, terse smile.

Gerard didn't often get a chance to see his wife until he got home from a long day at the garages or sorting out various pack issues. Most of the time even his lunches were spent talking to members of his pack or calling people or even just sorting out garage business. He was a pretty busy man, after all. So, it was a strange day when it turned out he had nothing to do and even had the chance to surprise his wife at work. He liked to see how the tea shop was doing, anyway, he barely ever got to see it during opening hours, and frankly, even if he did it was often only briefly. Now, he had a whole lunch break to see it! He guessed Veronica would probably be there, maternity leave never seemed to stop her, no matter how often he told her to stay at home and rest all day. He figured as long as she was letting things run on their own there was no problem with her being there for an hour or two. Not that he could stop her if she decided to go in all day, but he knew she'd do what was best for the baby – this was probably going to be one of their last chances to have kids, too.

”Hello?” he called as he entered the shop, glancing around the place and giving the person at the counter his usual reassuring smile. It was always nice in there, it very much made him think of his wife – he supposed that was a good sign, because it was her shop – but it had her femininity and reassuring air to it. He stepped in a little further, feeling rather big next to the delicate china, but he had enough grace to avoid it. ”Where's my- ah, there you are,” he said, looking around, unable to spot her at first (an amazing feat considering her hair colour and the fact she was slowly turning into a beach ball). ”Hello, love,” he said, kissing her on the cheek and then taking a step back to look at her. ”I had a spare hour, I thought I'd come see you not working,” he explained, giving her a light smile.

So Gerard is the leader of his pack, he's steadfast and strong and generally a good guy. He makes a point to be the best and most honorable leader he can be. He's loyal to his pack to the very end and he's incredibly protective of them, they're his main priority and every decision he makes is for their benefit. As a person to talk to he's very calm, very casual, all easy smiles and genuine caring - he tries his best to treat everyone like an individual and does what he can for them. Of course, Gerard isn't perfect, and he spends so much time trying to do what's best he sometimes forgets that he can't please everyone. Some people get pushed by the wayside for the good of the pack, he doesn't do it to be cruel, of course, but he can't always help everyone.

Friends. Gerard is an easy-going friendly guy, he's genuine and charming and will make a point to get to know everyone in his pack, if only so he can flash them a smile and ask about their family. He tries his very best to keep the peace, and I think he's well liked among his pack.

Enemies. He has some issues, of course, with hunters. He doesn't like people who are a threat to his pack on principle, and he does what he can to protect them. Personally, I don't think he sets out to make enemies, but like I said, sometimes the individual gets lost in the greater good, and some of johnny's pack might be bitter people who originally came from Gerard's.

Lovers. Gerard is sadly very married, and I don't need any pasts tbh, so this is all good!

“So, Mr Knox-”

“Gerard, please.”

“Of course, Gerard. So, what is it like being leader of the pack?”

Gerard leaned back in his seat, his usual easy smile enough to charm the reporter. He had, of course, agreed to an interview out of common courtesy. He wasn't particularly interested in PR opportunities. His priorities were a little less superficial, after all.

”It's an interesting job, I won't lie, tough at times, yes, but it's like being the father of a large family. It become a rewarding job when you know you're bringing together people who would be lost otherwise, being a werewolf on your own isn't easy.”

“Right!” The woman chipped in. “Wolves don't survive on their own, huh?”

“Something like that,” he chuckled, easily ignoring the misconception.

“Excellent, well, next question then! So, how did you become pack leader, was there a ceremony? Do you get anything?”

“I... not exactly, I became leader in the wake of my father's death, it was a very sombre time for us as a pack, and there was a lot of adjustment.”

“You mean with your brother leaving?”

“Ah- no, that happened a long while later, he was only young at the time.”

The woman smiled, noting down and underlining the words 'ROGUE BROTHER' and 'DEAD DAD'. Gerard subtly raised an eyebrow, having hoped to avoid them as the primary subjects in an interview about him. After all, those were part of his past, and he'd much rather talk about his pack in the now – perhaps even stretch to werewolf rights, and his stance on important government issues. Sadly, it just seemed this lady was looking for drama. He wouldn't win either way, but he was already deciding to try and take the subject away from those things, lest they become escalated again when they didn't need to be.

“Anyway, we did have to discuss with my father's second in commands, but in the end it was his wish that his eldest son take over the pack and the garages. I'd been doing a lot of the job anyway towards the end, so the transition wasn't too much of a shock for the pack.”

“Gosh, was there any resistance towards you as a leader then?”<p
“Not really, I worried for a while they might not trust me, but I think I've earned that trust in the last nine years.”

“Well, not all of them trusted you, clearly.”

Gerard paused for a moment, gritting his teeth imperceptibly. It was not anger, however, or irritation, it was the knowledge that this was a comment that could get to his brother, it could encourage him further, and Gerard was worried for him. He wasn't ready for a leadership position, he was too fiery, too prone to snap judgements and Gerard would easily confess he was worried for him. His efforts to bring his brother home had been in vain.

“No, not all of them did, but those younger wolves who have left my pack are still under my protection as much as any wolf who stays loyal to me.”

“And it's just younger wolves, is it?”

“Primarily, yes, they're drawn by the promise of some kind of revolution – we should be protecting our own from the world, not trying to take it on in a battle to the death.”

“You think there's no cause to be had for wolves, then?”

“Oh, I do, we need rights as much as any other supernatural species, but a head on approach seems dangerous to me, right now, especially with hunters at every corner ready to slaughter us and the government poised to take everything away from us.”

“So, you really feel the pressure then, from your brother and from the rest of the world?”

“Of course, if something goes wrong I'll be the one who has to make the right call, but no matter what I'll do what's best for my pack, they come first to me always.”

“I see, and do you think your pack is right to trust in you?”

“Yes. If I doubted myself I would have someone better take over.”

“And, yet, your own family doubts you? Does your sister side with anyone, while we're on the matter?”

“Yes I'm doubted, and that is a feeling like no other, but I trust my instinct. As for Cassie, I trust her to make her own decisions for her pack, she's a smart one.”

She scribbled down a few more things on her paper, feverishly delighted for a moment – Gerard took the moment to relax, settling back into his easy smile as quickly as he had become the leader with conviction just a moment ago.

“How about some lighter questions, now?” he asked, hoping she even had some up her sleeve.

“Oh, of course! I was going to ask what wolves do for fun – we always see them so seriously, do they have a secret side we don't see?”

“Definitely, the funniest people I've ever met have been wolves, and I like to think that werewolfism gives you a sense of humour, if you can't laugh at the fact you turn into a giant fluffy animal once a month then it gets a little draining.”

“Oooh, lovely, and – of course – tell me, what do you think about werewolves on tv – with things like Twilight and Teen Wolf around it must be strange to see yourselves on television?”

“I mean, I don't really watch those, but I've never really seen anyone portray us for what we are, which is normal people just living our lives. Once upon a time a lot of us were just regular people and no one knew the difference.” Gerard gave her an easy shrug as she noted this down.

“Okay, and finally, why don't we get a fun fact of some sort from you?”

“Fun fact, huh? Well, when I was a kid I stayed on my local Pacman leaderboard for over a year, I spent hours in the arcade when I was about nine or ten, used to drive my dad nuts.”

“Delightlful! I'll e-mail you the article before it's published, but I think this will be a wonderful piece on you. The photographer wanted to take pictures of you in the garage, maybe fixing up a car or something?”

Gerard nodded, gesturing for her to lead the way, still thinking over his brother, and how only in a matter of days he was going to meet his siblings once more, and maybe this time he would convince the younger man to come home.
