show me your broken heart and all your scars

Edmund's plans were not his favourite plans, he would admit. Bella had been born, she was healthy and safe, and Edmund knew that she only had a limited time left with her mother, or, perhaps not, if everything went to plan. There was still that risk though, the one Edmund knew they were taking, he could lose Ariana in a second if everything went wrong, and he wanted to be sure that if it did he'd done everything in his power to make her happy. A part of him felt like he had no choice anymore, putting it off was harder on both of them, and watching Ariana waste away with her illness was doing neither of them any good. He wanted her to believe she was still the same vibrant, ridiculous woman he'd known when he first met her, but the truth was she was pale and weak, and hurting. He never once wanted to treat her any differently, though, he loved her and he wanted her to know it, for once his own hang ups when it came to emotions meant nothing.

He'd left her to sleep for a little while, watching Arabella, only not taking her to Ariana's sister's to give her a chance to see her before he did anything. Once Bella was asleep too, though, he finally went to wake Ariana up from her sleep. Gently he knelt down by her bedside and stroked back her hair. "Hey, wake up," He said softly, leaning down to kiss her on the forehead. "I have something I want to do." Of course, she needed to be awake for it, but he also wanted her to agree to it before they left - well, at least the first part of it, he didn't know when he was going to explain the second part to her but he wanted to make her happy before she had to be serious. He hoped she'd say yes, of course, but a part of him didn't think she'd want to say no, as far as she knew these were her last days and he wanted to make them as special as he could for her.

Laying in the silence, waiting for the sirens. Signs, any signs I'm alive still. I don't wanna lose it. I'm not getting through this. Hey, should I pray, should I fray to myself til we're gone, to a saviour who can unbreak the broken. Unsay these spoken words. Find hope in the hopeless. Pull me out the train wreck. Unburn the ashes. Unchain the reactions. I'm not ready to die not yet. Pull me out the train wreck.

you take my breath away
You calm the storms, And you give me rest. You hold me in your hands, You won't let me fall. You steal my heart, And you take my breath away. Would you take me in, Take me deeper now. And how can I stand here with you, And not be moved by you?
Ariana knew her days were limited. She could feel it in her bones, in her heart she knew she didn't have very much time left. She tried her very hardest to be grateful for the time she still had, those moments she woke up and caught sight of her daughter, caught sight of Edmund. Even just waking up now was a surprise to Ari, she would be astonished that she had made it another day, that her weak body hadn't failed her in her sleep. She hurt more than she let on, she didn't want Edmund to know. She did her best, attempted to play off everything she felt, she sometimes thought he knew better, but also hoped she was fooling him too. It was difficult sometimes to pretend, especially when she accidentally caught a glance of her reflection. She couldn't pretend she was alright when she knew what she looked like. Too pale, too skinny, the epitome of a dying woman.

She awoke, confused and cloudy as she tried to break free from her drug induced sleep. She tried not to take too many of the painkillers she had been given, but sometimes she had no choice unless she wanted to scream out in agony. She could feel a familiar hand stroking her hair though, it comforted her and reminded her that it was probably okay to open her eyes. She blinked weakly up at the face staring down at her, a small smile ghosting across her face as a kiss was placed against her forehead. "Alright. What do you want to do?" She returned in a fragile voice, pulling herself up just a little so that she could press a delicate kiss against his mouth, because she knew their kisses were limited and she refused to miss even a single opportunity for one.

show me your broken heart and all your scars

Edmund waited patiently for Ariana to wake herself, aware she might be groggy, and having the utmost patience for that fact. As always he watched her with concern, unused to treating her as something quite as frail as she was now, but knowing his own strength and afraid to ever hold her too tight, to press too much against her skin as though she might break at any moment. He never wanted to push her too hard, but he knew on this occasion he had no choice but to pull her away from the rest she needed. If it was to be her last chance at happiness he had to make it work. He didn't answer at first, allowing her the time to kiss him gently, well aware that to her it all counted. He allowed her a soft smile in return, pulling back only to allow her the space to pull herself upwards.

"Are you feeling up for an outing?" He asked her, his voice quiet and soft as ever, there was no need to raise voices, and the reverence he treated her with seemed to call for quiet. He held up a hand to help pull her upwards into a seating position, deciding that at the very least he was knelt down far as it was, and he didn't want Ariana to get up until he had to. Obviously he was very much a traditionalist, and he didn't plan to marry Ariana unless she truly wanted to, which called for a very important question. "I need to ask you something first, if that's okay," He supposed it might have been given away there and then, but he still wanted to ask, he still wanted to tell her that even on her death bed she meant everything to him.
